Romantic Weekend in Georgia
Luxury Glamping and Exploring Local Hidden Gems
My husband and I recently celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary at one of the state's most romantic getaways: Dunya Camp in Summerville, nestled in the picturesque mountains of Northwest Georgia. I had seen these safari-style tents with their flickering lantern lights and red wraparound porches go viral on social media several times, and I wondered if they would live up to the hype. I'll admit, I went into the weekend a little skeptical. How could they possibly be as beautiful as those videos suggested?

Disclosure: My accommodation was hosted by Dunya Camp. As always, all opinions are my own.Â
I've never been so happy to be wrong. These tents are as beautiful in person as they are online.
As soon as I walked through the massive sliding glass doors, I found myself whispering "Wow" under my breath as each thoughtful detail revealed itself. From the mountain location to interior design, every aspect of this luxury retreat was carefully curated, including:
Plush Frette bathrobes
Custom-designed bath productsÂ
A luxurious king bed
Gold silverware—with two of everything
Dimmable lights throughout to create the perfect atmosphere
Outdoor lanterns casting a romantic glow at night
A hot tub + outdoor shower under the stars
I've heard this experience described as like visiting Bali, and I can why—especially in the exterior spaces. But, the interior was a blend of so much more. The tent itself is African, the furniture is Queen Anne style, and the accessories range from Indian to Asian influences. Add to that a weathered leather trunk, classic writing desk, intricate rugs, and wall tapestries, and it became one of the best examples of British Colonial style I've ever seen. Not to date myself, but the moment my husband and I stepped inside, we were instantly transported back to our shared love of the early Indiana Jones movies.
Every moment here feels intentional, and you can tell that Dunya Camp was lovingly planned and designed by someone with impeccable taste—even the Earl Grey tea blend was the best I've ever had.
You could easily spend your entire stay watching the stars, playing checkers, warming up by the cozy indoor wood stove or outdoor fire pit, and cooking meals on the grill. While the space is so beautiful you might never want to leave, there are several unique attractions nearby if you want to add some exploring to your weekend.
Alice in Wonderland Shop & Bakery
4277 AL-117, Mentone, AL
We stopped by The Hatter Cafe, a charming Alice in Wonderland-themed restaurant, boutique, and bakery serving GIGANTIC cookies. The restaurant was packed, and the huge blueberry cookie I treated myself to tasted like the best part of a blueberry muffin (the top).
DeSoto Falls
7104 DeSoto Parkway NE Fort Payne, AL
Just over the border in Mentone, Alabama, DeSoto Falls offers impressive views accessible by car—no hiking required (there is a short walk via a staircase). For the more adventurous, a 0.7-mile trail leads to the basin at the bottom of the falls, offering spectacular vantage points.
Log Cabin Craft Village
Hwy 117, Mentone, AL
On our way back to Dunya Camp, we visited the Log Cabin Craft Village -- a charming collection of tiny boutiques and galleries. Unfortunately, the ice cream shop was closed for the season...but it's so cute!
Wildflower Cafe
6007 AL-117, Mentone, AL
Though we planned to cook at our tent, the aromas from Wildflower Café, located across the street from the craft village, drew us in for a peek. The bustling restaurant, with its eclectic decor, quaint spaces, and wait line outside, felt like a scene from a movie. It's definitely on our list for our next visit!
Howard Finster's Paradise Garden
200 N Lewis St, Summerville, GA
On our final day, reluctantly leaving Dunya Camp, we visited Howard Finster's Paradise Garden. Finster, one of Georgia's most prolific and famous artists, created over 40,000 works of art, including this property in Summerville, GA. You can find his permanent collection at Atlanta’s High Museum, but visiting his garden in Summerville is always special. My favorite parts of the garden are the mirrored cabin, mosaic walkways, and covered bridge with fan art including a documentary about his life.
Unclaimed Baggage
509 Willow Street, Scottsboro, AL
If you ever wondered where all those lost airline bags end up, you'll want to stop by Unclaimed Baggage in Scottsboro, Alabama. This one-of-a-kind store features everything from designer clothing to electronics, all sourced from unclaimed travel items. While we couldn't fit it into this trip, we've been before and it's worth a detour if you have the time!
Thank you to Dunya Camp for hosting us for our 20th wedding anniversary! It was a weekend we'll never forget and easily one of the most magical places I’ve ever stayed in Georgia.
If you're looking for an unforgettable couple’s getaway, save this spot!
